What Is A Dental Emergency?
Most people tend to think that only dental injuries, such as knocked-out (avulsed) teeth, damaged, or impacted teeth count as dental emergencies. But this is not the case. Other examples of dental emergencies include:
- Damage to past dental work (fillings, crowns, veneers, etc.)
- Severe toothaches
- Serious cases of periodontal disease
If you notice symptoms like loosening teeth, pus between your teeth, or a change in your bite, get help right away by scheduling an emergency appointment.
What Should I Do If I’m Experiencing A Dental Emergency?
Seeing a dentist as soon as possible is the best way to ensure your tooth can be saved, and to get relief from your pain and discomfort. The first thing you should do is call Tempe Dental for an emergency appointment. We will do our best to see you on the same day, even if you need a weekend or an after-hours visit. Next, do your best to recover your missing tooth or dental work. If you lose a tooth, rinse it with warm water and put it back into the socket, or into a small container of milk.
You can treat bleeding with clean cotton balls or gauze. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be taken to reduce pain and swelling, but aspirin should NOT be used, as it is a blood thinner and can prevent proper clotting. Ice packs can be applied externally to the injury, to further reduce pain and swelling
